Will LG Produce The OLED Screen For Google’s Upcoming 2017 Pixel XL Smartphone?

AndroidPolice blog claims it has exclusive information regarding Google’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the 2017 Pixel XL. Besides the leaked image you see below, the blog claims that the Pixel XL will use a 6″ flexible OLED display (2:1 aspect ratio) – produced by LG Display.

The OLED display will have (according to the leaked image) curved corners – but it will not sport an edge-folded design.

In April 2017 it was reported in Korea that Google is in talks with LGD to secure flexible OLED supply for its next-gen flagship smartphone. The report suggested that Google offered LGD a $872 million investment to secure capacity. LGD will soon start mass producing flexible OLEDs at its 6-Gen flexible OLED fab in Gumi (the E5 line, which will cost $900 million) and LG is also constructing another flexible OLED fab, the E6 line, which will also be a 6-Gen fab with double the capacity of the E5 line (15,000 substrates). The E6 is scheduled for the end of 2018. LGD’s ambitious P10 OLED fab will also include some flexible OLED capacity – although plans for this fab hasn’t been finalized yet, and it will mostly be used to make large OLED TV panels.
