Furan is a heterocyclic organism containing a five-yuan aromatic ring consisting of four carbon atoms and an oxygen atom. Compounds containing such rings are usually homologues of furan.

Furan is a colorless, flammable, volatile liquid, the boiling point is close to room temperature. Furan is toxic and carcinogenic. It is often used as the starting material for the synthesis of other complex organics.
